The wave-pattern Portuguese mosaic pavement alone is worth the trip. The contrast between the colonial Portuguese architecture and the Chinese character of Macau creates something uniquely beautiful you cannot find anywhere else in the world.

UNESCO World Heritage designation is completely deserved. The square at night, with the yellow colonial buildings lit up and the mosaic pavement gleaming, is one of the most photogenic spots in Asia. Go after 8 PM for the best light.
Beautiful square that captures Macau's soul. During Chinese New Year it's absolutely electric with decorations and crowds. For photography, go early morning before the tour groups arrive.
The Leal Senado Building is extraordinary — the neoclassical facade and the inner courtyard with the azulejos tile work is a piece of Lisbon transported to China. A genuine architectural treasure.
Senado Square is the perfect starting point for exploring historic Macau. From here you can walk to the Ruins of St. Paul's, St. Dominic's Church, and the old city walls. The square itself is always lively and free.
Stunning colonial square. Gets crowded midday but is very manageable early morning or evening. The surrounding streets with Portuguese-Chinese signage add to the sense of being in a genuinely unique place.
